How to Burn Bukhoor

1. Select Your Burner
Choose a burner that suits your style and needs. At Memories of Muscat, we offer a variety of burners crafted for both beauty and functionality. For the best experience, consider dedicating one burner to natural frankincense and another to mixed bukhoor or resins to maintain the purity of each scent.
2. Light the Charcoal
Place a piece of charcoal in your burner. Use a torch lighter or heat source to ignite the charcoal for a 5-10 seconds, or until it begins glowing red. Allow it to rest for a few minutes until a light grey ash layer forms, ensuring a consistent burn.
3. Choose Your Bukhoor or Resin
Whether you’re burning a floral bukhoor, a rich blend of oud, or pure frankincense, select the aroma that suits your mood or occasion. For hosting, choose something warm and inviting. For personal use, opt for lighter, calming scents.
Place your chosen bukhoor or resin directly on the center of the coal. Use tongs to ensure it’s positioned properly for an even burn.
4. Experience the Aroma
Allow the fragrant smoke to fill the room, creating a serene and welcoming atmosphere. For personal use, guide the smoke gently around yourself, in your hair and underneath your garments.
5. Share the Tradition
If sharing the burner with others, pass it clockwise around the room to allow everyone to enjoy the aroma. Refill the burner with fresh bukhoor or resins as needed to maintain the fragrance.
Additional Tips:
- Avoid flipping the bukhoor once it’s on the coal to maintain a balanced burn.
- Line your burner with foil or clean your burner regularly to prevent buildup and maintain its elegance and function.
- For powdery bukhoors like Floral Oud, use a mica plate, a piece of foil, or consider burning them with a wax burner instead of charcoal to achieve a smoother and more controlled release of fragrance.
These tips help you get the most out of your bukhoor while preserving the integrity of your burner and enhancing your overall experience.
